Certification

Agents must certify with UnitedHealthcare to solicit, present, or sell products in the UHC Medicare Solutions Portoflio, which may include branded Preferred Care Partner products. Please note that UnitedHealthcare certifies agents to sell a type of product. Once certified to sell a specific type of product, agents are certified to sell all plans of that product type in the Medicare Solutions portfolio.

Is AHIP required?

No

What is cost of AHIP?

The cost of AHIP is $125 if you first access the AHIP courses by going through the Learning Center on www.unitedhealthproducers.com. This amount reflects a $50 discount off the $175 AHIP certification fee.

Can AHIP be used for compliance credit?

Yes. AHIP certification and recertification satisfy the requirement for the following United Healthcare Medicare Solutions Certification Modules:

  • 2016 Medicare Basics
  • 2016 Medicare Advantage Plans
  • 2016 Medicare Part D Plans

If you certify directly through AHIP, you must transmit the 2016 AHIP Certification BEFORE any other 2016 modules. If you fail to do so, your AHIP score will be rejected.

Does Carrier reimburse for AHIP?

No

Does first time certification differ from recertification?

First-time AHIP users must complete the full certification modules, while returning AHIP users must complete the recertification modules.

How do I retrieve my User Name and Password?

If you forgot your Agent ID or need assistance with the United Healthcare Distribution Portal, please contact the Producer Help Desk (PHD) at phd@uhc.com or by phone at 888-381-8581. They can be reached Monday – Friday from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. CST.

If you forgot your password, click on the Password assistance link in the Sign-In box on the home page.

Instructions to begin certifying using AHIP:

1) Log into www.unitedhealthproducers.com

  • Agency: Select “Party Id” and enter-log in information
  • Individual agent: Select “Agent Id” and enter log-in information
  • Forgot password: click “Password Assistance”
  • Not yet registered party ID: click more in the “Register Now”
    module

2) Click on the Learning Center tab at the top left

3) Certifications instructions will open in a new tab. (If it doesn’t, check to make sure your pop-up blocker is turned off.)

4) Certifications page will appear

  • CAREFUL: If you have already taken the AHIP or plan to do so with
    UHC elsewhere, click the AHIP button first!
  • AHIP is not required to write UHC products

5) Click 2016 AHIP (EDC Only)

6) Click OK when a message appears stating, “You have 3 attempts to complete this component.”

7) Read the next message that appears carefully and proceed accordingly. You should automatically be directed to the AHP website.

8) Enter log-in credentials

9) Complete the assigned modules:

  • Returning AHIP users: Those returning need to complete parts 1
    through 5, the Final Exam, and the Fraud, Waste & Abuse Training.
  • New AHIP users: Those first-time users need to complete only parts
    4 and 5, the Final Exam, and the Fraud, Waste, & Abuse Training. They may complete parts 1 through 3 if they wish.

10) Download slides from a course on AHIP site to use them as a reference while studying or taking the test by:

a. Selecting course you would like slides from  

b.  Clicking Download Slides to the left  

c.  Opening document at bottom left

11) Click Medicare Course Home tab near top to return to Certifications page.

12) Transmit AHIP to United Healthcare

  • Click Transmit or Re-transmit to the right of “United Healthcare”
    under “Completion Transmission.”

  • Make sure that all applications are complete, accurate, and legible
  • Submit applications within 24 HOURS of receipt

  • SNP Qualification Form (if applicable)
